What is grit? The plural, grits, refers to the cereal I like that’s not easy to cook. It doesn’t reheat well or go down easily. It may need a second stirring, honey and patience. The quality of grit relies on not overcooking or undercooking, but being consistent. With grit, I make the phone call or query again about a project, a workshop or article I’m working on, repeat the conversation I had with a non-listening child or relative. Trying new approaches and ingredients by learning from the past. Each day, grit greets us anew.
